Dos and don'ts

To help you make the best out of the Speaking club lessons, check out the dos and donts list below 📝:


Do

Don’t

Take some notes and write down some key words.

Write down long and complicated sentences.

Look up the keywords and expressions in (online) dictionaries (e.g. Wordreference).

Translate everything on Google Translate, Chat Gpt or similar websites.

Use the grammar points you already know or you’re learning at the moment.

Try to use complicated grammar points that you haven’t learnt yet.

Stick to the main topic of the lesson during the Break out room sessions.

Spend too much time making small talk

(e.g. about the weather).

Ask your classmates questions during the Break out room sessions.

Dominate the conversation. Instead, let your classmates talk too and respond to what they say.

Do find a comfortable place with a stable internet connection.

Don’t participate whilst driving – your safety is important to us. 

Enjoy getting to know classmates from different cultures and walks of life.

Make jokes or comments that could risk offending other cultures or communities.

Go over the lesson notes after the session: it’ll help you remember what you’ve learnt!

Arrive on time. The teachers will end the session if no one joins within the first 10 minutes.
